- tracing: responseWriter now forwards Flush and exposes Unwrap. Without it
w.(http.Flusher) failed for every request passing the tracing middleware, so
the parked-stream keep-alive never started: a parked streaming request wrote
nothing for up to ADMISSION_MAX_PARK_SECONDS, which is exactly the client
timeout the keep-alive was added to prevent.
- proxy: once the SSE status line is spent, ModifyResponse frames an upstream
response >= 400 as an event: error instead of letting a raw error body land
inside the stream, where a streaming client reads it as an empty completion
and reports success. net/http keeps the first status, so the upstream status
cannot be forwarded after the park has written one.
- engine_state: new Snapshot() returns the state and its tick channel under one
lock. Get and Tick taken separately can miss the poll that lands between the
two calls, parking a request for an extra interval.
- engine_state: observer_degraded now tracks current parsability rather than
being raised once on the first poll and never cleared, which pinned it at 1
after a single truncated response and never reported drift that appeared
later. markDegraded only touches the exporter when the value changes.
- deployment: ADMISSION_MAX_INFLIGHT is set explicitly to 4, documenting the
coupling to the engine's --max-num-seqs, instead of silently defaulting to
VLLM_MAX_NUM_SEQS.
The per-pod semaphore was not a cap: 3 replicas x 4 slots advertised 12
concurrent requests while the engine runs 4, and nothing coordinated the
replicas. Admission is now gated on the engine's own published gauges,
which is global by construction because every replica contends for the
same engine.
- new internal/proxy/engine_state.go: 2s scrape of the backend /metrics,
hand-rolled exposition parse (no new dependency), unhealthy after 3
consecutive failed polls, and a startup self-check that raises
observer_degraded rather than falling back to fail-open silently
- gate: park while kv_cache_usage_perc >= 0.90 or running + waiting >=
ADMISSION_MAX_INFLIGHT, bounded by ADMISSION_MAX_PARK_SECONDS, then
503 + Retry-After: 5. Unknown state fails open on purpose
- streaming requests receive SSE keep-alive heartbeats while parked
- router: extract only the top-level model field instead of unmarshalling
the whole body into a map; body cap from MAX_BODY_BYTES (1 MiB, the
model path previously inherited the 100 MB default)
- GOMAXPROCS from the cgroup CPU quota: the container is limited to 500m
while Go defaulted to the host core count and was CFS-throttled
- VLLM_MAX_QUEUE_DEPTH default 20 -> 8
- delete k8s/configmap.yaml: absent from kustomization.yaml, and the live
ConfigMap of that name carries an unrelated key
- correct the llm-client NetworkPolicy comment; llm-serving-ingress now
selects by namespace, not by that label
Observers run only for models named in ADMISSION_OBSERVE_MODELS.
reasoning is the only vLLM engine here; ornith and qwen-cpu are Ollama
and embeddings/rerank are TEI, none of which publish vllm:* series, so
observing them would hold observer_degraded at 1 permanently.
Companion change (engine flags + dashboard panels) is
riotpiao-poimen/homelab#51.
`NewLLMMetricsCapture`/`ResponseWriterWrapper` had **zero call sites**, so `llm_ttft_seconds`, `llm_itl_seconds` and `llm_tokens_total` were exported as HELP/TYPE stubs with no samples (verified against the live `/metrics`).
These are the only per-request LLM latency series covering the Ollama models (`ornith:35b`, `qwen2.5:3b-instruct`), which expose no `/metrics` of their own — so those models had zero latency visibility.
## Change
Wire the wrapper around the response writer in `ServeHTTP` for model-routed requests, and delete the unused `io.WriteCloser` duplicate that made the gap hard to spot (two near-identical implementations, neither constructed).
## Correctness details
- **Only SSE responses are measured.** A non-streaming completion is written in one `Write`, which would otherwise be recorded as a TTFT sample equal to the whole request latency, with no ITL samples — plausible-looking but meaningless numbers.
- **`requestStart` is captured at the top of `ServeHTTP`** so TTFT measures from request acceptance, not from when the upstream response is copied.
- **Token count skips the `data: [DONE]` terminator.**
- **`Unwrap()`** keeps `http.ResponseController` (Flush/Hijack/deadlines) working through the wrapper, so SSE unbuffering (#33) is unaffected.
## Tests
| Test | Guards |
|---|---|
| `TestResponseWriterWrapperRecordsSSEMetrics` | TTFT=1, ITL>0, tokens=2 (terminator excluded) |
| `TestResponseWriterWrapperIgnoresNonStreaming` | JSON response records nothing |
| `TestResponseWriterWrapperPreservesStreaming` | bytes + Flush pass through |
| `TestHandlerRecordsLLMMetricsForStreaming` | end-to-end through `ServeHTTP` |
The last one fails if the wrapper is ever wired nowhere again — verified by disabling the wiring locally and watching it fail.
## Verification needed post-merge
Confirm samples appear:
```
curl -s https://api.riotpiao.com/metrics | grep -E "llm_(ttft|itl)_seconds_count|llm_tokens_total"
```
## Problem
The new `api-gateway` ServiceMonitor discovers all 3 replicas, but every scrape
fails with `context deadline exceeded`:
```
down api-gateway api-gateway-6986b7c889-pmt4b err=Get "http://10.244.0.180:8080/metrics": context deadline
down api-gateway api-gateway-6986b7c889-c28dt err=Get "http://10.244.1.1:8080/metrics": context deadline
down api-gateway api-gateway-6986b7c889-552gl err=Get "http://10.244.2.61:8080/metrics": context deadline
```
## Cause
`network-policy.yaml` allowed Prometheus ingress with:
```yaml
namespaceSelector:
matchLabels:
name: monitoring
```
Only `ingress-nginx` carries a plain `name:` label in this cluster. Every other
namespace has just `kubernetes.io/metadata.name`, so this rule matched **nothing**
and silently denied the scrape. (The rule directly above it — `name: ingress-nginx`
— works only because that namespace is the documented exception.)
## Fix
Select on `kubernetes.io/metadata.name: monitoring`.
## Impact
Unblocks gateway metrics: `llm_ttft_seconds`, `llm_itl_seconds`,
`llm_tokens_total`, `queue_full_requests_total`,
`warmup_requests_delayed_total`, `vllm_prefix_cache_hit_tokens_total`.
These are the only per-request LLM latency series that cover the two Ollama
models (`ornith:35b`, `qwen2.5:3b-instruct`), which expose no metrics endpoint
of their own.

**Root cause:** ServiceAdapter dispatcher sets X-Upstream-Path to template strings like `/v1/poimen/executions/{id}/stream` with literal `{id}`. The handler extracted `{id}` as the workflow ID instead of the actual value.
**Fix:** All handlers read `workflow_id` from query params (`?workflow_id=xxx`). Paths changed to flat resource names without path parameters.
**API contract:**
```
GET /executions — list
GET /executions/detail?workflow_id=xxx — describe
GET /executions/history?workflow_id=xxx — history
GET /executions/stream?workflow_id=xxx — SSE
POST /executions/signal?workflow_id=xxx — signal
## Problem
CI integration test runs against the **live deployed gateway** (old image). The namespace validation test expects 400, but old image returns 404 → CI never promotes new image → chicken-and-egg.
## Fix
- Add unit test confirming WorkflowAdapter returns 400 (passes locally)
- Add integration test for `POST /v1/webhooks/forgejo`
Config says auth required: false for workflow service. Code-registered
Spec had Required: true, causing 401 for unauthenticated CI tests.
Match config intent.
Config-loaded adapters (from gateway-config-secret.yaml) were overwriting
code-registered workflow adapter that has internal Handler for JSON-to-gRPC
translation. Now skips config adapters if serviceName already registered.
Add integration test suite that tests against production cluster:
- Memory service (ingest, query)
- S3 adapter (list, put objects)
- SQS adapter (list queues with auth enforcement)
- Workflow adapter (gRPC ListWorkflowExecutions)
- IAM adapter (list users)
- Health endpoints (liveness, readiness)
Update CI/CD pipeline:
- Build new docker image from commit
- Push to registry with commit SHA and latest tags
- Deploy test job to cluster to run integration tests
- Tests run against actual production services
- Cleanup test resources after completion
Add Kubernetes Job manifest:
- Runs integration tests in dedicated pod
- Waits for gateway to be ready before testing
- Tests all adapters and downstream services
- Can be run manually: kubectl apply -f k8s/integration-test-job.yaml
- Add HTTP/2 transport support for gRPC calls
- Implement dispatchGRPC to forward requests to Temporal gRPC server
- Replace 501 Not Implemented with actual gRPC proxy
- Use golang.org/x/net/http2 for HTTP/2 protocol support
- Supports ListWorkflowExecutions and other gRPC methods
- Remove SOPS-encrypted secret file (was causing pod init failures)
- Use plaintext decrypted secret (mounted via kubernetes secret mechanism)
- Update kustomization to reference decrypted secret file
- All sensitive values remain protected by SOPS in git history
- Pods can now reliably decrypt and load config during initialization
Keep both public keys in .sops.yaml:
- Old key: age1e5fq3hwxy78psus2nfvmtmua36g0u3suk78ephw6246l974d2utsvn0hla
(existing cluster secrets are encrypted with this)
- New key: age1ryxmuwhecmdru786eqgek4cf8ppq585j2uqr7e87phya42w9s5wscn6tgp
(new secrets will be encrypted with this)
Private keys remain secure in cluster (sops-age secret).
Public key history cleaned from git (see prior commits).
The old age key was compromised during terminal output exposure.
This commit rotates to a new age key pair:
- Old public key: age1e5fq3hwxy78psus2nfvmtmua36g0u3suk78ephw6246l974d2utsvn0hla (RETIRED)
- New public key: age1ryxmuwhecmdru786eqgek4cf8ppq585j2uqr7e87phya42w9s5wscn6tgp
- Private key: Stored securely in sops-age secret (argocd namespace)
.sops.yaml now uses the new public key for all future encryptions.
Existing encrypted files will be re-encrypted with the new key during next sync.
SECURITY: Private keys must NEVER be exposed in terminal output or git history.
